Hospital/Health Center

Hospital refers to a type of medical institution. At present, hospital refers to an institution where specialist doctors and staff provide services to the patients through necessary equipment. Often the hospital also has residential beds for long-term treatment of the patient. Hospitals can be run by government, private (charitable or for-profit) or insurance companies. In ancient times, religious institutions were regularly engaged in the management of hospitals.

Hospital social service activities
The disease severely affects the normal life of the people and makes them helpless. Illness is extremely unbearable for the poor patients in distress. The importance and effectiveness of hospital social work is immense in ensuring that the sick poor receive their basic right to medical care. Hospital social service activities help the poor helpless patients in various mental, family, social, economic, illness related issues as well as other information required for the well-being of the patient. Increases the patient's mental strength, bears the cost of treatment, provides the physician with various information about the patient's illness and the cause of the disease, and provides assistance for rehabilitation at the end of treatment. This service was first introduced at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in 1959 and at present 90 government and private hospitals at city level and district level across the country are running services through the Department of Social Services. Besides, this program has been expanded to 342 upazilas through Upazila Patient Welfare Association.

 

Service

Assistance in hospitalization and treatment
Free medicine, auxiliary equipment, prostheses, various medical supplies and food supplies or cash assistance for collection.
Provide wearable clothing
Cash assistance in blood supply or purchase
Supply of nutritious food
Rehabilitation of unwanted children
Rehabilitation of unwanted patients in the family due to disease
Assistance in relocation of hospital / medical center
Informing patients about health awareness / first aid
Mentally distressed patient or patient in case of serious illness, operation etc.
Assistance in establishing family and social contact with the patient
Assist in increasing morale by providing counseling to relatives
Arranging the funeral of an unidentified poor deceased person
Cash financial assistance after discharge

Those involved in the implementation of the activities

The activities branch of the social services department implements this activity. Under the leadership of the Director (Activities), 69 Hospital Social Service Officers at the headquarters level and in the field are involved in the implementation of these activities. At the upazila level, the Upazila Social Service Officer as the Member Secretary of the Upazila Patient Welfare Association is involved in the implementation of these activities in the Upazila Health Complex. At the district level, 64 Deputy Directors and 22 Assistant Directors supervise the field level activities and coordinate between the field level and the headquarters. Authority for implementation of Patient Welfare Association activities at field level. The Hospital Social Service Officer and the Chairman / President / President / Executive Director / Health and Family Planning Officer of the concerned hospital act as the Member-Secretary and President of the Activities Implementation Committee respectively.

Informing the hospital social service office about poor patients;
Inform the authorities if any deviation is observed in the conduct of activities;
To provide financial assistance to the Patient Welfare Society including Zakat, Fitra, Donations, etc .;
Treat patients with empathy;

Immediately after the patient is identified or the patient applies.
